EUDORIA
A LAND OF BETRAYAL AND PROPHECY
THE ANCIENT ERA AND THE SOULWELL
Long before human kingdoms took root, Eudoria was shaped by the Vaelith, an ancient race devoted to balancing life and death. Their legacy was the Soulwell, an enigmatic source of immense power buried beneath a temple in the frozen northeastern mountains. Legends say the Vaelith’s hubris led to their downfall when they sought to harness the Soulwell’s energy, unleashing a catastrophe that eradicated their civilization. When the Elves arrived, they sealed the Soulwell with powerful wards, believing its magic was integral to the natural order but too dangerous to wield. Later, the Orcs came, drawn to the temple by ancestral myths that spoke of it as a gateway to their gods. The temple became a spiritual site for both factions, but an uneasy truce kept its secrets undisturbed. This fragile balance remained until the rise of King Vaelarus, a human conqueror whose ambition would forever change Eudoria.
THE REIGN OF VAELARUS
King Vaelarus brought a golden age to Eudoria, uniting warring human tribes into a single kingdom. He was a visionary ruler, admired for his strength and wisdom, though his unyielding belief in his own righteousness sometimes made him ruthless. As age and illness crept upon him, Vaelarus grew fearful for his kingdom’s future. He believed only he could safeguard Eudoria from falling back into chaos. Guided by his trusted friend and High Mage Therion, Vaelarus turned to the legends of the Soulwell, hoping to use its power to prolong his reign for the good of his people. Therion, a master of arcane magic, warned of the risks but ultimately supported his king, seeing the Soulwell as a tool that might preserve Eudoria’s fragile peace. However, the Orcs and Elves, who had long contested Eudoria as sacred ground, viewed Vaelarus’s rise with suspicion. The Orcs, led by the ambitious warlord Grunok, believed Vaelarus sought to drive them from the land entirely. Meanwhile, the Elves, guided by the wise but enigmatic Thaloria, feared that humanity’s growing dominance would disrupt the natural balance of the world. Though neither faction openly waged war against Vaelarus during his reign, they opposed his expansion into lands they considered their own. This tension boiled over when whispers of Vaelarus’s interest in the Soulwell reached their ears. Both the Orcs and Elves feared the consequences of a human king wielding such power and began plotting ways to prevent it.
THE FALL OF VAELARUS AND THE RISE OF THE NECROMANCER
The fateful journey to the Soulwell remains one of Eudoria’s greatest mysteries, its truth clouded by conflicting accounts and deliberate obfuscation. The most widely accepted version of the story paints Therion as the villain. Consumed by his own ambitions, it is said that Therion betrayed Vaelarus at the temple, stabbing him in an attempt to seize the Soulwell’s power for himself. Instead, the magic overwhelmed him, twisting him into the immortal Necromancer, a harbinger of undeath who unleashed horrors upon Eudoria. But among the humans, who are now known as the Obscured Creed, a darker version of the tale persists. According to these whispers, Therion’s ‘betrayal’ was not an act of malice but of desperation. The Creed claims that Grunok and Thaloria, fearing what Vaelarus might become if he gained the Soulwell’s power, orchestrated his death. This version suggests that Grunok and Thaloria ambushed Vaelarus at the temple, striking him down as he approached the Soulwell. Therion, in a futile attempt to protect his king, lashed out with unbridled magic, inadvertently triggering the Soulwell’s corruption. This unleashed a torrent of necrotic energy that transformed Therion into the Necromancer and set the undead plague upon Eudoria. To this day, the Orcs and Elves deny these allegations, claiming they had no hand in Vaelarus’s demise. The truth remains elusive, with only the Soulwell itself holding the answers.
THE PROPHECY OF THE LAST SALVATION
The prophecy of the Last Salvation offers hope to a land teetering on the brink of ruin. It speaks of a figure who will rise to wield the Soulwell’s power and either restore balance to Eudoria or plunge it into eternal darkness. Each faction claims the prophecy for their own: - The Orcs, led by Grunok, believe he is the destined savior. To them, Grunok’s strength and leadership in the face of the undead mark him as the Last Salvation, chosen by their gods to guide Eudoria into a new age of Orcish dominion. - The Elves, under Thaloria, interpret the prophecy differently. They believe she is the rightful savior, chosen by the natural order to cleanse Eudoria of its corruption and restore harmony. Her connection to the ancient wards of the Soulwell strengthens their conviction. - The humans, particularly the Obscured Creed, reject both claims. They believe the Last Salvation must be tied to Vaelarus’s bloodline, perhaps an heir lost to history, who will reclaim the Soulwell and set right the betrayals that led to the kingdom’s fall. This division only deepens the conflicts among the factions, as each believes their salvation comes at the cost of the others.
THE CHURCH AND THE TEMPLE
Two sacred sites now serve as focal points in the battle for Eudoria’s future: - The Church of Eternal Radiance, built near Vaelarus’s castle, was meant to unify the kingdom under a shared spiritual vision. It is said that Vaelarus left behind hidden artifacts within its halls—relics that might hold the key to breaking the curse of the Necromancer. Many believe the church is where the prophecy must be fulfilled, though its true role remains unclear. - The Temple of the Soulwell, far to the northeast in the frozen mountains, is the ultimate source of Eudoria’s turmoil. Guarded by the undead, it is both a place of immense danger and the epicenter of the Necromancer’s power. Reaching the temple is a perilous journey, but it is there that the Soulwell’s secrets—and the truth of Vaelarus’s fate—can be unraveled.
THE GREY AREAS OF TRUTH
As the factions clash and the prophecy looms, the truth of Eudoria’s past remains mired in doubt. Was Vaelarus a noble king undone by betrayal, or a flawed ruler whose ambition endangered the land he loved? Did Therion betray his king, or was he a tragic hero, sacrificing everything to protect him from Orcish and Elven treachery? Were Grunok and Thaloria saviors of their people, or opportunistic betrayers who condemned Eudoria to its current nightmare? Even the prophecy of the Last Salvation offers no clear answers. Will the savior bring peace or further destruction? And whose vision of salvation is the right one? Eudoria’s history is written in blood and shadow, and its future depends on those brave enough to seek the truth.
BACKGROUND ON THE ORCS
AND ELVES
ORCS OF KORGRATH
The Orcs hail from the harsh and unyielding lands of Korgrath, a realm shaped by jagged mountains, barren plains, and volatile volcanoes. In this unforgiving environment, only the strongest survive. For generations, the Orcs endured relentless trials, their society forged by adversity and bound by an unwavering code of strength, honor, and loyalty to their clans. Korgrath is not a land of prosperity but of resilience. Resources are scarce, and rival clans often compete for dominance, waging brutal wars to claim what little the land offers. These trials bred a culture of warriors—each Orc trained from birth to wield weapons, master combat, and face death with pride. Their arrival in Eudoria was not a conquest born of greed, but one of necessity. Grunok, their leader, united the fractured clans of Korgrath under a single banner to seek a new home. Korgrath, their ancestral land, had become uninhabitable due to a series of natural disasters and magical disruptions, forcing the Orcs to migrate. They saw Eudoria as both a sanctuary and an opportunity to rebuild their future. However, their occupation of Eudoria was not without resistance. The undead hordes threatened their survival, and the Elves, viewing the Orcs as disruptors of the land’s balance, sought to oppose them. Despite these conflicts, the Orcs cling to their belief that they are the rightful stewards of Eudoria, destined to tame its wilds and forge a kingdom worthy of their strength. Among the Orcs, there is a deep reverence for the Temple of the Soulwell, which they believe is connected to their gods. To many Orcs, the Soulwell is a sacred place meant to bless their people with the strength to endure. Yet, the corruption of the Soulwell has divided them: while Grunok seeks to purify the land, others whisper that the undead plague may be a test of their worthiness.
ELVES OF ALVERIA
The Elves reside in the secluded and mystical realm of Alveria, hidden from mortal eyes by powerful wards and ancient magic. Alveria is a place of timeless beauty, where verdant forests hum with life, rivers glisten with otherworldly light, and the stars weave ancient constellations into tales of forgotten gods. The Elves see themselves as caretakers of this balance, living in harmony with nature and drawing wisdom from their ancestors. For millennia, the Elves avoided the mortal affairs of Eudoria, preferring isolation over intervention. They saw humanity’s wars, the Orcs’ expansions, and even the ancient struggles of the Vaelith as fleeting echoes in the long march of time. To them, the natural balance of the world, maintained by the Soulwell, was paramount, and their wards ensured it remained undisturbed. However, the rise of King Vaelarus and the later corruption of the Soulwell shattered this peace. As the undead spread across Eudoria, the Elves began to see their isolation as a mistake. Signs of imbalance grew in Alveria itself—forests withering, rivers stagnating, and the stars dimming. Guided by visions and portents, Thaloria, a revered leader among the Elves, argued that their fate was now intertwined with that of Eudoria. The decision to intervene divided their people. Some Elves saw it as a noble duty, while others feared that venturing into Eudoria would lead to ruin. Thaloria’s vision prevailed, and the Elves emerged from their hidden realm to confront the forces threatening the land. Yet, their motives were not entirely altruistic. Many Elves believed that reclaiming the Soulwell’s power was necessary not only to restore balance but to ensure the survival of Alveria itself. Their ancient connection to the Soulwell gives the Elves a unique perspective on its power. To them, the corruption unleashed by Therion is an abomination, and they view their efforts as a righteous crusade. Yet their history with the Soulwell is not without shadows, as some Elves whisper of their ancestors’ complicity in the downfall of the Vaelith.
ORCS AND ELVES IN CONFLICT
The relationship between the Orcs and Elves has been marked by both reverence and rivalry. While the Orcs see the Soulwell as a divine gift tied to their gods, the Elves view it as a force of balance, neither belonging to any one race nor meant to be wielded. This fundamental difference has driven much of their animosity. The Orcs see the Elves as pretentious guardians who hoard power while ignoring the struggles of the living. Meanwhile, the Elves see the Orcs as reckless and destructive, unworthy of Eudoria’s sacred land. This tension reached a boiling point during the reign of King Vaelarus, when both factions feared humanity’s growing dominance and its attempts to control the Soulwell. Though they never openly allied, their shared opposition to Vaelarus’s ambition—and their perceived role in his downfall—continues to cast a shadow over their actions.
NOW, WITH EUDORIA IN CHAOS AND THE PROPHECY OF THE LAST SALVATION DIVIDING THEM FURTHER, THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ORCS AND ELVES IS AS MUCH A BATTLE OF IDEOLOGIES AS IT IS FOR SURVIVAL.
